The Wonder Years

This is exactly the type of band that I like and I’m not even talking about their music – yet. The Wonder Years (no, not like Fred Savage Wonder Years) is a 6-piece pop/rock/punk/alt band hailing from Philly.

The Wonder Years is one of those bands that gets it. By that, I mean they understand what it takes to make music, shows and the scene interesting. In terms of releases, they’re all over the place; they have full-lengths, EPs, 7”s digital stuff and best of all, a few limited edition items. They also do something that honestly wish more bands did: draw people to shows with tour-only merchandise. Think about it – if you’re on the fence about going to a show, you just need one little thing to convince you. A tour-only tee, record or whatever could be just the thing to turn a decent sized show into a sold out show. Smart thinking.

Musically speaking, The Wonder Years is pretty poppy modern punk-ish type stuff. I wouldn’t say it’s punk, but it’s not lame ass pop rock either. It a good blend of lightheartedness delivered with a raw and energetic youthfulness. Give it a listen for yourself and be sure to check out the band’s latest release, The Upsides.
