February Band of the Month - The Higher
| Written By: Ikaika: Wednesday, 3 February 2010 |
Vegas has been known for pumping out such hit makers as Panic! At the Disco, The Killers and The Cab to name a few. The Higher, this month's Xpoz band, is the next Sin City export to tear up both the national and international stages.
It all started in high school, when two of the current The Higher members formed a band then known as September Star. They switched names when they got signed to Fiddler Records, who released “Star is Dead” and “Histrionics.” In 2007, they jumped ship to Epitaph Records and released “On Fire” and most recently “It’s Only Natural.”
What does their name mean? Nothing. Really, nothing. They drew the name out of a hat. Oddly enough, the band feels that the name they chose does them justice, or at least that's what frontman Seth Trotter said the day of this interview - right before the band headed out for a quick tour of Japan.
Seth and Jason share most of the song writing burden and although the process varies from song to song, they're obviously doing something right. Just look at the over 1.5 million Myspace plays of their hit song Insurance.
The Higher is 100% smokefree and they take pride in the fact that their live stage performance is one of the best out there. Some bands can sound different live than how they sound in person, not The Higher; what you bought and expect is exactly what you get. Don’t take our word for it, go see for yourself as they will be opening for Jack’s Mannequin at 5pm sharp on February 12th at the House of Blues.
Lastly, if you haven’t already, pick up their new album “It’s Only Natural,” you won't be disappointed.
Usually XPOZ likes to give random facts about each of the band members. However, this month we just have one:
Every member of the band The Higher has a slight obsession with Grammy award winning singer, songwriter and record producer The Dream.
