The Murder Ballad

One of the bands that created the most buzz at this year's Shredfest was undoubtedly The Murder Ballad. Their heavy but pop metal sounds resonated at the Henderson pavilion, with an amazing set and a high energy performance.

It all started back in 2004 when Nathan and David came decided to from a band. Going through several band members they eventually snagged Barry and Andrew in 2005 in their newly named band Furthermore. They later found that the name Furthermore was already taken by another band already signed to a label. They had to come up with another name. Barry's old band was called The Murder Ballad. He suggested that name and it stuck. In 2007, they brought on Shawn, making the set you see today.

When asked to explain their name, they gave a simple yet interesting explanation. When one thinks of a ballad, it usually is associated with a slow love song. Murder, well, everyone knows that that is. They interpret their name as killing the slow songs. Their goal is to create high energy, high intensity hardcore songs.

This hardworking set of musicians doesn't only create songs for the sake of creating songs. They borrow inspiration from everything. Each band member brings in their own musical background. From Jazz to country, classic rock to punk, blues to emo, these guys covered it all. They have great appreciation for any person that can create music to make people move. Thus, they strongly ask anyone that enjoys their music to see them live. They put in countless hours to creating an excellent live show and want everyone to be able to enjoy their passion.

Every song has a meaning. The lyrics, composition, and layout of each song are created in a way to give the keen listener a deliberate message. David, Shawn, Barry, Nathan and Andrew have always supported the local rock scene and moreover, the XPOZ movement. They are undeniably one of the hardest working upcoming bands and is destined to make an enormous impact.

David (23): has a degree in business; turned down a full ride scholarship with the naval academy to pursue his musical career.

Shawn (22): loves bingo, traveling, supporting the local music scene and movies.

Barry (25): loves old classic cars

Nathan (21): borderlines obsessive compulsive disorder on being a clean freak.

Andrew (21): is a guitar god! His life also shuts down when the Dallas, Cowboys are playing and during Shark week.
