Second-Hand-Smoke:
This is the smoke that comes off cigarettes and is breathed in by people that don’t smoke. Here’s the facts:
- Virtually everyone (99%) is at risk of harm from second-hand smoke.
- Chronic conditions, like asthma, allergies, and heart disease, make people more vulnerable to secondhand smoke.
- Harm from secondhand smoke depends on time spent breathing it and the concentration of the smoke
- There are more chemicals in secondhand smoke than in the smoke sucked in by smokers
- Children who breathe secondhand smoke are more likely to suffer from lung problems, including bronchitis, pneumonia, and lung disease.
- Children who breathe secondhand smoke tend to have more ear infections.
- Secondhand smoke can set off stronger and harsher asthma attacks in people with asthma.
